OSQR Business Line vs AI receptionists
Every AI receptionist answers the phone.
This one answers from your own price sheet, and texts too.
If you run a pool, HVAC, plumbing or landscaping company and miss calls while you are on a job, there are now a dozen AI receptionists that will pick up for you. Most of them are good. Here is how they differ, and where ours fits.
The question
What is the best AI phone answering service for a small service business?
The short answer
An AI receptionist is a phone number that an AI answers 24 hours a day: it takes the caller’s name and what they want, answers the routine questions, books or takes a message, and texts you the summary. The products below were built for that job first. The OSQR Business Line came at it from the other direction: it started as the number that answers your customers’ texts from your own documents, and the phone was added to the same number, with the same memory, in September 2026.
The AI receptionists, one by one
Described by what each was built to do and how it charges, which change slowly. We do not print their prices: they change without notice, and a stale number that flattered us would be worse than useless. Each name links to the vendor's own site.
| Product | What it is | How it charges | What it does well |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rosieheyrosie.com | An AI receptionist for local service businesses that sets itself up from your website and Google profile. | By the minute, in monthly tiers; moves you up a tier when you run over. | Fast setup from a Google Business Profile, and it handles calls in English and Spanish out of the box. |
| Goodcallgoodcall.com | An AI phone agent for local businesses, built for owner-operators who miss calls on jobs. | By the unique caller each month, not by the minute, so a long call costs no more than a short one. | Predictable bills when callers talk at length, which pool and repair callers do. |
| Smith.aismith.ai | An AI receptionist with live North American receptionists behind it for the calls the AI should not handle. | By the call, with the human-backed plans priced well above the AI-only ones. | A real person can take over a messy or emotional call. Nobody else on this page offers that. |
| Upfirstupfirst.ai | A simple AI receptionist that books, transfers and takes messages. | By the call, flat regardless of length; spam calls are not counted. | The cheapest honest entry point if your call volume is low, and it speaks many languages. |
| Dialzaradialzara.com | A low-cost AI receptionist with a quick setup and a custom voice. | By the minute, with small monthly allowances and a per-minute overage. | A cheap way to find out whether you want an AI on your line at all. |
| OnCrewoncrew.ai | An AI receptionist built for home-service trades, with trade-specific intake that separates an emergency from a routine quote. | By the call, in monthly tiers, with no per-minute billing. | The intake is written for HVAC, plumbing and pool work rather than for a generic office, and Spanish is a setting with no surcharge. |
| OSQR Business Lineosqr.ai | Upload your price sheet, your services and your service area. On the phone and in texts it answers from those and says it does not know when a question falls outside them, rather than improvising. That behaviour is the product. | $249/mo. 2,000 texts a month included as a fair-use ceiling, no per-seat charge, no per-conversation fee. Calls and texts on one number. | The same assistant answers the text, the call and your website chat, so a customer who texted Tuesday and calls Thursday is one record, not two leads. |
Where the AI receptionists beat OSQR
If one of these is what you need, buy theirs.
A human behind the AI
Smith.ai can hand a call to a live receptionist. The Business Line hands a caller to you, or whoever’s number you saved, and otherwise takes the message. If callers often need a person right then, buy the hybrid.
Spanish on the phone, out of the box
Rosie, Upfirst, Dialzara and OnCrew advertise Spanish call handling. Ours answers texts in whatever language the customer writes, and we have not published a claim about Spanish on calls, so do not take one from us.
A cheaper way in
Several of these start low or free for a small number of calls. If you miss five calls a week, a per-call plan is the right shape and ours is not the cheapest number on this page.
A native phone app for reviewing calls
Rosie has iOS and Android apps for listening back. You review Business Line calls in OSQR, which works on a phone but is not an app in the store.
What OSQR Business Line does
With the conditions attached, because they matter.
It answers from your documents and refuses the rest
Upload your price sheet, your services and your service area. On the phone and in texts it answers from those and says it does not know when a question falls outside them, rather than improvising. That behaviour is the product.
One number, calls and texts, one memory
The same assistant answers the text, the call and your website chat, so a customer who texted Tuesday and calls Thursday is one record, not two leads.
It books into your calendar on the phone
It offers real times out loud, books the one the caller picks and texts them the confirmation. With no calendar connected it takes the message instead.
The demo is the phone itself
Call (623) 232-0185. That is our own line, answering for the company that builds this, the way yours would.
One flat month
$249 is the whole bill. No per-seat charge, no per-conversation fee, and nothing that goes up because the AI answered well.
Pick one of them if
You want a live person as the fallback, Spanish on the phone from day one, or you miss a handful of calls a week and want the smallest possible bill.
Pick OSQR if
Your callers ask about price, coverage and availability, you want the answers to come from your own documents, and you want the texts, the calls and the website answered by one assistant with one memory.
See Business LineQuestions people ask before choosing
Does the OSQR line really answer calls, or just texts?+
Both, on one number. A new line is born with call answering off; you switch it on, on the line’s setup card, and from then on it picks up. Switched off, callers hear a greeting and can leave a voicemail, which is transcribed and sent to you. It never dials out. Ring (623) 232-0185 to hear it.
Will it pretend to be a person?+
No. Asked whether it is human, it says plainly that it is not, which is the law in several states rather than a style choice.
What happens to a call it cannot handle?+
If you have saved a number to hand off to, it puts the caller through when they ask for a person. If not, it takes the message and texts you what the caller wanted. It does not guess at prices or promises that are not in your documents.
Why are the other products’ prices not on this page?+
They change without notice, and a stale number that flattered us would be worse than useless. Each name above links to the vendor’s own site. Ours is here because we control it.
