The Mac app is in early testing. You can download it today, but expect rough edges.
Let Oscar text from your own number.
OSQR Agent runs quietly on your Mac. It lets Oscar send texts from your own phone number and see your Messages, so when someone answers, the reply comes back into your OSQR thread.
Download for MacApple Silicon Macs (M1 or newer), macOS 14 or later.
Before you start
- An OSQR account with your phone number on it.
- Messages on this Mac signed in with the same Apple Account as your iPhone, so your texts show up on the Mac.
Install it in three steps
Open the download
Double-click the file you just downloaded. A window opens with the OSQR Agent app and your Applications folder side by side.
Drag OSQR Agent into Applications
Drag the app onto the Applications folder in that window. That installs it.
Open it and sign in with your OSQR phone number
Open OSQR Agent from Applications. If your Mac asks whether to open an app from the internet, click Open. Its icon shows up in the menu bar at the top of your screen, and it asks for the phone number on your OSQR account. Oscar texts you a 6-digit code; type it in and this Mac is connected.
Then give it two permissions
Full Disk Access, so it can read your texts
Your Mac keeps your texts in a locked spot that no app can read until you say so. After you sign in, OSQR Agent opens a note that walks you there:
- Click Open System Settings.
- In Privacy & Security → Full Disk Access, click + and pick OSQR Agent.
- Switch it on.
- Back in the OSQR menu at the top of your screen, choose Test Messages access.
Without this switch it can still sign in, but it can't see your texts, so replies can't come back to you.
Control Messages, so it can send from your number
Your Mac will ask whether OSQR Agent may control Messages. Click Allow (or OK). That's how a text goes out from your own number instead of a new one.
Tip: texts only go from your number while the Mac is on and awake. Choose Start at login in the OSQR menu so it comes back by itself after a restart.
What it can and can't do
Oscar only acts as far as your automation level allows. At the starting level, every new text waits on a card in OSQR until you tap yes. Move Oscar up a level and texts you ask for go straight out to family, then, one level higher, to close friends. One thing goes without a card at any level: when family texts you and you tell Oscar to answer, a reply based on something Oscar can see, like your calendar, goes right out.
It can
- Send a text you asked for from your own phone number, so it shows up from you, not from a strange number.
- Bring the reply back into your OSQR thread when someone answers a text Oscar sent for you.
- Keep texts from people Oscar knows so it can remember what was said, without pinging you about each one.
It can't
- Save texts from people Oscar doesn’t know. Those are checked and thrown away.
- Copy over your old message history. It starts with texts that arrive after you install it.
- Send from your number while the Mac is asleep or off.
- Run on an Intel Mac or a Mac older than macOS 14.
Keeping it safe
- Signed by us and notarized by Apple, so your Mac knows where it came from and that Apple checked it.
- You sign in with a code texted to your phone. You never type a password into the Mac app.
- No AI key is stored on your Mac. It holds one sign-in key in your Mac's Keychain, and Sign out in the menu deletes it.
- If FileVault (your Mac's disk lock) is off, the menu tells you and opens the setting.
